What changes between an Indian resume and a resume for Australia

Australia uses resume and CV interchangeably in the private sector. Academia and parts of the public service mean the long-form CV when they say it, so read the advertisement rather than assuming.

No photograph. An Australian recruiter reads one as unfamiliarity with the market rather than as confidence.

No date of birth, marital status or photo. Do include your visa status — it is an ordinary expected line on an Australian resume rather than an awkward disclosure.

Australian resumes run longer than American ones. Three to four pages is common and not penalised, because employers expect real detail against each role instead of a one-line summary of it.

Australian spelling follows the British pattern with -ise strongly preferred: organise, specialise, recognise, centre, and licence as the noun.

The rules that only apply in Australia

• Public-sector and many large-employer applications ask you to address written "selection criteria" or "key capabilities" — a separate document answering each criterion with a STAR-shaped example. A resume alone does not answer them, and applications that skip them are set aside without being read.
• Referees are expected later in the process, and "available on request" on the document itself is entirely normal here.
• Australian bullet style is plain and evidence-first. Title inflation reads worse in this market than in almost any other.
