Work out your last working day.

Your last working day is the day you resign plus your notice period. This works it out, and counts the days you have left.

  • Your notice period is set by your employment contract, commonly one to three months in India.
  • It is counted from the day you hand in your resignation, not from when you would like to leave.
  • Longer roles and senior positions often carry a longer notice.
  • If you leave sooner, that is a notice buyout to agree with your employer, not a date you can just pick.

Pick your resignation date and your notice period below. The last working day, and the days remaining, appear on the right.

Free, and there is no account. The date is worked out in this browser from what you enter, and it is sent nowhere.

What it is

A notice period is time you owe, not time you choose.

It is the gap between telling your employer you are leaving and actually leaving, and your contract sets its length.

The clock starts the day you resign. Add the notice period to that date and you have your last working day, which is the date that goes on your resignation letter and the one HR plans around. Counting from any other day, like the day you hope to start somewhere new, is the mistake that turns a clean exit into an awkward one.

Garden leave and buyouts

Two ways the notice changes shape.

The length rarely moves, but how you serve it can.

Garden leave

Some employers keep you on the payroll but away from work for the notice. You still serve it, and your last working day is unchanged. You are simply not at your desk for it.

Notice buyout

If you want to leave before the notice ends, you or your next employer may be able to buy out the remaining days. That is an agreement to reach with your employer, not a date you can set on your own.

The date goes on the letter.

Once you have the day, the letter is a few fields away.

With the date worked out, the resignation letter generator writes the letter it goes on, and when you are applying again the free review reads your resume the way a recruiter and an ATS will.

Questions

Common questions.

How do I calculate my last working day?
Take the date you hand in your resignation and add your notice period to it. If your notice is one month and you resign on the 3rd, your last working day is the 3rd of the next month. The calculator above does this for you and counts the days remaining.
How long is a notice period in India?
Whatever your employment contract states. One to three months is common, and senior roles often carry longer. There is no single legal figure; your contract is the source, so check it before you count.
Is notice counted from the resignation date or the acceptance date?
From the day you formally resign, in most contracts. Some count from acceptance, so read yours. The calculator counts from the resignation date you enter, which is the common case.
Can I reduce my notice period?
Sometimes, by agreement. A notice buyout, unused leave adjusted against the notice, or an early release your employer grants. None of these is automatic, and none is a date you can simply write in without agreement.
Does garden leave change my last working day?
No. On garden leave you serve the full notice, just away from work, so the last working day is the same. What changes is where you spend the notice, not how long it is.
Does this calculator store the dates I enter?
No. It runs in your browser, stores nothing, uploads nothing, and needs no account. It is date arithmetic, not a service.

Your last day is a date. Your next job is a decision.
