Resume summary generator: write yours from your own resume.

A resume summary is two to four sentences at the top of your resume. It names your role and years, two or three main skills, and one result you can back up, and, if you are changing direction, the role you are applying for. Add your resume below: the checks show what it gives a summary to say, and the AI writes two summaries from it, using only the facts it contains.

Summaries written from your resume

The AI writes two summaries from your resume, and nothing else. Every fact in a draft must be in your text, or the draft is dropped.

Add a few lines about your work first: your role, the tools you use and one result.

What your resume gives a summary

Upload or paste your resume above to see what it gives a summary to say.

The checks are free, need no account, and run in this browser; a file is read on our server to get its text. The AI summaries are optional, need a free account, and send your text only when you press the button.

The recipe

How to write a resume summary in four parts.

In this order, in two to four sentences. The checks above look for the same four.

The shape

Role and years, main skills. One result. Target role, if you are changing.

1

Role and years

The title you want to be read as and, if you have them, your years: "Staff accountant with 4 years in logistics". A fresher writes the qualification and year instead: "B.Com 2025 graduate with CA Intermediate".

2

Main skills

Two or three tools or skills the jobs you want ask for, named the way the job post names them: Tally Prime, NetSuite, Java, IV cannulation. Qualities such as "hardworking" are not skills.

3

One result

One number a reader can ask you about: clients handled, patients a shift, sales grown, time saved. One is enough; the rest belongs in your experience section.

4

Target role, if you are changing

Only when your experience points somewhere else: "Applying for data analyst roles." Name it as what you are applying for, never as work you have done.

14 examples by field

Resume summary examples.

The people are made up; the tools, qualifications and places are real. Each one follows the recipe. Change the facts to yours, and keep only what you can show.

Fresher, commerce

B.Com 2025 graduate with CA Intermediate cleared in both groups and 14 months of articleship at a Pune CA firm. Prepares GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B workings for 12 clients a month in Tally Prime and assisted on statutory audits of 30 companies. Applying for audit associate roles.

A fresher has no years yet, so the qualification and articleship carry the first sentence, and the client counts are the proof.

Fresher, engineering

B.Tech Computer Science 2026 graduate with two internships in backend development, in Java, Spring Boot and MySQL. Built a library booking API used by 400 students in the final-year project. Applying for backend developer roles in Bengaluru or Hyderabad.

The internships stand in for years. The project names who used it and how many, which a reader can ask about.

Software engineer

Backend engineer with 5 years in payments, building services in Go and PostgreSQL. Rebuilt the card refunds service to handle 30,000 refunds a day and moved releases to GitHub Actions, cutting release time from 2 hours to 15 minutes.

Two results, both with before and after figures. No adjectives, because the numbers do that work.

Nurse

Registered nurse with 6 years in emergency care, BLS and ACLS certified. Triage and care for 18 to 22 patients a shift in a 40-bed emergency department, and preceptor for 6 new graduate nurses.

Certifications sit in the first sentence because nursing job posts screen on them. The patient load shows the pace of the work.

Teacher

CBSE mathematics teacher (TGT) with 8 years teaching Classes 9 and 10. Built the department's unit-test tracker in Google Sheets. Board results in the sections taught rose from 78% to 91% between 2021 and 2024.

The board names the system, the classes name the level, and the result is the teacher's own sections, not the school's.

Sales

Sales officer with 4 years in paints and building materials, managing 9 distributors and about 300 dealer outlets in the Lucknow territory. Grew territory sales from ₹6.2 crore to ₹8.1 crore in FY 2024-25. Applying for area sales manager roles.

Distributor and outlet counts show the territory's size; the sales figure shows the result. "About" stays where the count is approximate.

Accounts and finance

Staff accountant with 4 years in logistics, running month-end close for 3 entities in NetSuite. Built a bank reconciliation workbook in Excel that cut reconciliation time by about half, and prepare 1099s for about 150 vendors.

The system (NetSuite) and the scope (3 entities) are what a hiring manager checks first in accounts.

HR

HR business partner with 9 years in infrastructure, supporting about 900 employees in the power transmission vertical. Cut offer-to-joining drop-outs from 22% to 13% with pre-joining calls, and helped roll out SuccessFactors performance management.

"Helped roll out" is kept as help. Claiming the roll-out alone would be the first thing an interviewer asks about.

Customer support, BPO

Process associate with 2 years in US healthcare voice support, handling 70 to 80 inbound calls a day on insurance eligibility and claim status. Quality score of 94% for the last 6 months.

Call volume and the quality score are the two numbers every BPO interview asks for, so both are in.

Marketing, social media

Social media executive with 3 years in consumer food brands, planning Instagram and LinkedIn content at 5 posts a week. Grew the Instagram account from about 4,000 to about 12,000 followers, with reels shot and edited in CapCut.

The posting rhythm shows the workload, the follower growth the result, and the tool the hands-on skill.

Career change

Mathematics teacher with 7 years in CBSE schools and the Google Data Analytics Certificate. Built an Excel tracker of unit-test marks for 160 students that the department now uses for every class, and works in Excel, Google Sheets and basic SQL. Applying for data analyst roles.

The summary names the target role as a target. The evidence is real analysis work done as a teacher, not a relabelled job title.

Returning after a break

Software engineer with 6 years in Java and Spring backend development for an insurance claims system, returning after a career break from 2019 to 2024. Led a module team of 5 developers, and refreshed Spring Boot 3 and Docker in 2025. Applying for Java developer roles.

The break is stated once, plainly, with the dates. The refresh shows the skills are current.

Operations, logistics

Delivery driver with 3 years on Amazon delivery routes in Phoenix, holding a Class B CDL and an OSHA forklift certification. Deliver about 180 packages a day on a 10-hour route with zero preventable accidents.

Licences first, because they decide who can be hired. The safety record is the result.

Pharmacy, UK

GPhC-registered pharmacist with 5 years in community pharmacy, running clinical checks and dispensing for about 250 items a day. Lead the store's NHS Pharmacy First consultations and completed the independent prescriber course in 2024.

Registration is the first thing checked in UK pharmacy, so it opens the summary. The course is dated, which makes it checkable.

Before and after

Weak summary, strong summary.

Four openings of the kind most summaries start with, each rewritten to the recipe.

Weak: Hardworking and passionate professional seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation.

Strong: Accounts executive with 4 years in GST and TDS compliance, filing GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B for 3 GSTINs a month.

Every word of the weak line could be written by anyone. The strong one names the role, the years, the work and the scale.

Weak: Results-driven software engineer with excellent communication skills and a proven track record.

Strong: Backend engineer with 5 years in Go and PostgreSQL. Cut release time from 2 hours to 15 minutes by moving deploys to GitHub Actions.

"Results-driven" and "proven track record" promise results. The strong line shows one.

Weak: Dedicated teacher who loves children and believes in holistic education.

Strong: Primary teacher with 6 years in CBSE schools, teaching Classes 3 to 5 English and EVS to sections of 35.

Beliefs belong in the interview. The summary names the board, the classes, the subjects and the class size.

Weak: Fresher looking for an opportunity to grow and learn new skills.

Strong: B.Sc Nursing 2026 graduate with 6 months of internship in a 300-bed hospital, rotating through ICU, OT and paediatrics.

A fresher's summary leads with the qualification and the training, not with what they hope to get.

How it works

What the generator does with your resume.

Four steps. None of them can tell whether your resume is true; they can only keep the summary to what it says.

The checks read your resume

Upload the file or paste the text. A file is read on our server to get its text; the checks then run in this browser, as you type: the role or qualification, any length of experience you wrote out, the skills and tools from our shared skill list, and the numbers.

They check a summary you already have

With the same rules as our Naukri profile summary checker: the opening, skills, a number, what you want next, the length, filler and capitals. Filler is marked where it sits.

The AI writes two summaries from your text

With a free account. It is told to use only facts in your resume, never to work out years from dates, and to name a target role only as a target.

Every draft is checked before you see it

Code checks every number, name, skill and title against your text, a second model call must quote your own words for every claim, and a third check judges whether anything is unsupported. A draft that fails any of them is dropped, not trimmed.

Not the same thing

Three things a summary is confused with.

A summary is not an objective

An objective says what you want ("seeking a challenging role"). A summary says what you have done. If you are changing direction, the summary can end with the role you are applying for.

It is not your cover letter

Two to four sentences, not a page. It names your strongest facts so a reader decides to keep reading; the letter is where you explain why this job.

It is not a list of qualities

Hardworking, passionate, team player: anyone can write these and nobody can check them. Each word in a summary should be something you could show in an interview.

The rest of the page

Show each fact from your summary again lower down.

Every fact in the summary should appear again lower down, with the detail. If your experience section is thin, start there: the action verbs checker reads a whole section bullet by bullet, and the free resume review reads the whole file. On Naukri, the profile summary follows the same recipe; the Naukri headline checker has a mode for it.

Questions

Common questions.

Can't find your answer? Visit the help centre or contact us.

What is a resume summary?

Two to four sentences at the top of a resume that name your role and years, your main skills and one result. It tells a reader in a few seconds what you do and why the rest of the page is worth reading.

How long should a resume summary be?

Two to four sentences, usually 40 to 70 words. One sentence reads as a headline; past four it turns into a cover letter. The check above counts your sentences.

Should a fresher write a summary?

Yes, if it carries facts: the qualification and year, internships or articleship, two or three skills and a project with a number. If all you could write is qualities and hopes, leave it out and let the education section speak.

What is the difference between a summary and an objective?

An objective says what you want; a summary says what you have done. Recruiters read summaries. If you are changing careers, end the summary with the role you are applying for instead of writing an objective.

Should I write it in the first person?

Resumes usually use an implied first person: "Staff accountant with 4 years in logistics", with no "I" or name. Indian resumes sometimes use "I"; either reads fine if the whole resume does the same.

Can the summary say how many years of experience I have?

Yes, if you write the number yourself. The AI writer never works out years from your dates, because a gap, a part-time role or a course changes the answer and only you know which.

Is this resume summary generator free?

The checks and the examples are free and need no account. The AI summaries need a free account, so each draft can be checked against your own text and saved to your resume.

Does the AI make anything up?

It is told not to, and every draft is checked before you see it: every number, name, skill and title must be in your text, a second check must quote your words for every claim, and a draft that fails is dropped. If none passes, you see none, with the reason.
