Subject: Application for Sales Executive at [Company]

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Sales Executive position at [Company]. Your job description calls for someone who can understand a business customer's requirements, explain a solution and follow through after a demonstration. In my current office-supplies sales role, I manage enquiries from initial conversation through quotation and handover to fulfilment.

Before preparing a proposal, I ask about the customer's purchasing process, delivery requirements and existing supplier arrangements. I record those details in our CRM and agree on a next step with the buyer. When a customer raised concerns about changing suppliers, I coordinated with operations to explain the delivery process and clarify which commitments we could meet before asking for an order.

I also keep quotation notes and follow-up dates current so colleagues can pick up an account without asking the customer to repeat the conversation. That discipline would be useful in a software sales team where demonstrations, commercial discussions and onboarding involve different people.

I am interested in bringing this consultative approach to business software and learning your product through customer conversations and structured training. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my experience in qualification, proposals and account follow-up fits your sales process.

Thank you for considering my application. My resume is attached, and I would be glad to talk through an example of how I have handled a customer objection.

Kind regards, [Your name]

Why this letter works

Opening: match the sales motion
The letter names B2B selling tasks. For retail, field sales or account management, replace these with the work that the vacancy actually involves.
Evidence: explain a buyer conversation
The supplier objection gives the employer something concrete to discuss. If you have documented quota or revenue results, add the period, currency and your own contribution.
Transition: acknowledge the product change
The applicant brings a sales process to a new sector without claiming software expertise they do not have.

Adapt it to your experience

  1. Match the job's customer type, territory and channel. An enterprise account role needs different evidence from a counter-sales role.
  2. Name CRM software only if you used it. Explain how you recorded opportunities or planned follow-up rather than listing tools without context.
  3. Distinguish individual results from team results. Omit numbers if you cannot verify them or are not allowed to share them.

If you have little or no experience

For a first sales job, use a college sponsorship pitch, fundraising activity, retail internship or customer-facing part-time role. Explain who you approached, what you asked and how you followed up. Do not describe a classroom pitch as a closed commercial deal.

Before you send it

Check the role and company name, replace every placeholder, and match the evidence to the job description. Follow the employer's length and attachment instructions. Keep qualifications, dates and responsibilities consistent with your resume.

Common question

Can I write a sales cover letter without revenue figures?

Yes. Describe a relevant customer problem, the questions you asked and how you handled the next step. Include revenue or quota figures only when they are accurate, attributable to you and appropriate to disclose.
