What changes between an Indian resume and a resume for Singapore
Resume and CV are both used in Singapore for the same document; neither will be misread.
Genuinely split. A photograph was long standard on Singapore resumes and you will still see plenty, but the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices guidelines discourage collecting personal attributes irrelevant to the job, and more employers now ask for files without one. Omitting it is the safer default and costs nothing.
Never put your NRIC or FIN number — or any full identity-document number — on a resume. Age, marital status and religion fall under the same fair-employment guidelines and should come off too.
Two pages.
British spelling — organise, centre, programme.
The rules that only apply in Singapore
- State your citizenship or pass status explicitly: Employment Pass holder, S Pass, Permanent Resident, or requires sponsorship. It determines the employer's quota and levy position and is the first thing screened.
- Put your notice period on the document. Singapore roles move quickly, and a two- or three-month Indian notice period is a scheduling fact the hiring manager needs before the first call rather than after the offer.
How your resume actually gets read in Singapore
Under the Fair Consideration Framework, most Employment Pass roles must first be advertised on MyCareersFuture for a set period and considered fairly against local applicants. Your application is therefore competing on a government job portal before it reaches any company system, which makes your MyCareersFuture profile part of the application rather than a formality.
Where Singapore roles are advertised: MyCareersFuture, LinkedIn and JobStreet.
What employers in Singapore ask about your right to work
The Employment Pass is assessed on a points framework covering salary against sector benchmarks, qualifications, and the hiring firm's own workforce profile — which is why an identical CV succeeds at one employer and fails at another for reasons that have nothing to do with you.
