CA Articleship Resume: Structure and an Annotated Example

Write a CA articleship resume with accurate exam status, relevant coursework and clearly labelled projects. Includes a fictional example and ICAI reference.

A CA articleship resume should make your examination status, relevant learning and availability easy to understand. The resume supports an application for training; it does not establish eligibility by itself. Check ICAI’s current requirements for your scheme and circumstances before stating that you are eligible to commence practical training.

Show examination and training status accurately

List the CA course stage and groups actually passed, with the examination session or year. State pending results as pending. Record ICITSS completion only when completed, and distinguish a scheduled course from a completed one. The linked ICAI course guidance explains practical-training eligibility under the new scheme.

Do not use “Chartered Accountant” as your qualification if you have not qualified. If you are applying while completing a requirement, state the current position and expected availability honestly rather than leaving the reader to infer completion.

Choose a concise structure

Use name and contact details, current CA examination status, education, relevant projects or experience, skills and any useful achievements. Put the strongest relevant evidence near the top. A short summary is optional if the examination and education entries already explain your position clearly.

You do not need a membership section, references statement or declaration unless the firm or application process requests it. Avoid a full residential address or identity-document numbers in a generally circulated resume.

Fictional example: opening and education

CA Intermediate candidate seeking articleship exposure in audit and accounting. Both groups passed in May 2026; ICITSS completed in July 2026. Practised ledger reconciliation and audit-evidence organisation through supervised coursework.

Education: Bachelor of Commerce, Example College, 2023 to 2026. CA Intermediate: both groups passed, May 2026. ICITSS: completed, July 2026. These are fictional details used only to demonstrate the structure. Replace them with your verified results and training status.

Fictional example: relevant project

Accounting records exercise, Example College, January to March 2026. Matched mock purchase invoices with ledger entries in Excel and listed unmatched items for instructor review. Prepared a reconciliation summary explaining timing differences and missing supporting documents.

This entry identifies the educational setting, task and reviewer. It does not claim that the student audited a real client or independently approved accounting treatment. That distinction matters more than making the project sound larger.

Describe actual experience at the right level

For an internship or part-time role, name the employer, dates and work you personally completed. “Organised supporting invoices for the supervisor’s review” is appropriate if that was your responsibility. “Managed statutory audits” would be misleading if you only assembled documents.

If you have no relevant work experience, use projects and coursework with clear labels. Do not invent a firm, client, software implementation or tax-saving result. Explain what you learned and what you would need to develop during training.

Make skills demonstrable

List tools and tasks you can discuss, such as spreadsheet lookups, pivot tables, basic ledger reconciliation or document indexing. State whether your use came from coursework or employment when that distinction is important. Avoid “expert in taxation” after an introductory course.

Prepare to explain one example behind each important skill. For a reconciliation, describe the two records compared, how you handled a difference and who reviewed the result. Do not bring confidential records from another employer to an interview.

Check before sending

Confirm dates against result records and certificates. Read the firm’s application instructions, use the requested file format and test the attachment. In the accompanying email, state the training opportunity you are seeking, your current status and your realistic start date.

The sample linked below offers another fictional application with annotations. Use its structure and explanations, then write your own evidence rather than copying the candidate’s qualifications or achievements.
