Tara Kulkarni
Backend Developer
Bengaluru, Indiatara.kulkarni@example.com
Summary
Backend developer with four years building order-management APIs in Node.js and PostgreSQL. Works on validation, database queries and asynchronous processing with tests for failure and retry behaviour. Collaborates with product and support colleagues to turn recurring issues into maintainable changes.
Experience
Backend Developer · Example Birch Commerce Software
2024-01 – PresentBengaluru, India- Built and maintained order-management API endpoints used by three internal applications, with documented request validation and error responses.
- Reworked a slow order-history query and added an appropriate index, reducing p95 response time from 920 to 410 milliseconds in the recorded staging load test.
- Added idempotency handling and retry tests to an asynchronous import job, preventing duplicate order creation in repeated test submissions.
- Introduced structured error logs for import failures and wrote a support runbook that linked error categories to safe investigation steps.
Junior Backend Developer · Example Birch Commerce Software
2022-08 – 2023-12Bengaluru, India- Maintained reviewed API handlers and added validation for malformed order requests.
- Reproduced reported database errors and added regression cases before submitting fixes for review.
Projects
Order import demonstration
- Created a synthetic order import service with validation, duplicate-request handling and integration tests.
- Documented failure cases, retry behaviour and the limits of the demonstration deployment.

Write about behaviour as well as implementation
A useful bullet connects a technical choice to the problem it solved. For an import job, describe duplicate submissions, the idempotency behaviour and the tests that exercised retries. For an API, explain validation or error handling that callers depend on. You do not need to list every endpoint or library. Select changes where you can explain the previous behaviour, the new behaviour and how you verified that the change worked under relevant failure conditions.
Put performance figures in a testable frame
Response-time improvements need a workload, an environment and a measure. Median and p95 latency are different, and a staging benchmark is not a production guarantee. Include enough context to prevent a misleading comparison and keep fuller details in your interview notes. The same care applies to throughput and availability claims. A database index may improve one query while adding write overhead, so be ready to explain the trade-off rather than presenting every optimisation as a universal improvement.
Make reliability and security work concrete
Tests, migrations, observability and access checks are valuable backend work when tied to a specific behaviour. Describe the checks you implemented and the boundaries you tested. Avoid saying that an application is completely secure because you used a framework or added authentication. If a specialist team reviewed the design, explain your contribution. Keep private infrastructure details, customer records and incident identifiers out of the resume and any linked repository.
