Daniel Reed

Solutions Architect

Bristol, United Kingdomdaniel.reed@example.com

Summary

Solutions architect with eight years in application engineering and architecture. Designs customer portals and service integrations using AWS, Java and PostgreSQL. Turns access, recovery and support requirements into documented design decisions, prototypes and delivery plans.

Experience

  1. Solutions Architect · Example Cedar Technology Services

    2021-06 – Present
    Bristol, United Kingdom
    • Designed a customer portal for a regional distributor, separating a React interface, Java APIs and an RDS PostgreSQL database with role-based access for branch and head-office users.
    • Compared ECS Fargate and an EC2-based deployment against weekday demand, overnight imports and the support team's operating capacity; recommended Fargate and documented its cost assumptions.
    • Prototyped the inventory integration and found the supplier API could not support a full refresh at peak times; introduced queued updates, retry limits and a daily reconciliation step.
    • Defined backup and recovery acceptance criteria with the operations owner, then coordinated a staging restore exercise before launch.
    • Maintained architecture decisions and interface contracts across three delivery teams, assigning owners to unresolved data-access and rollout risks.
  2. Software Engineer · Example Cedar Technology Services

    2018-07 – 2021-05
    Bristol, United Kingdom
    • Built Java REST endpoints for order tracking and tested authentication, pagination and failure responses with the QA team.
    • Reworked a PostgreSQL query after inspecting its execution plan, checking both response time and result consistency on a staging copy.
    • Prepared deployment and rollback notes and joined the support handover for the customer portal.

Education

  • BSc Computer Science

    Example Rivergate Institute
    2014 – 2018

Skills

Connect discovery to a concrete design

Name a requirement that changed the approach. Recovery expectations, existing interfaces, support capacity and data access can all affect a design. A useful bullet might say that you compared two options against an agreed workload and documented the trade-offs. Keep the stakeholder's decision separate from your recommendation. If you facilitated the review, say that rather than claiming sole ownership of an organisation-wide strategy.

Show how you tested an assumption

An early prototype is valuable when it resolves uncertainty. Describe the question it answered and what changed afterwards. In this fictional document, an integration test reveals a rate-limit constraint before delivery starts. The point is the design consequence, not simply that a prototype existed. Do not publish private diagrams, credentials, customer identifiers or commercially sensitive cost models to prove the work.

Use frameworks as context, not a credential

Familiarity with a framework can inform your vocabulary, but it is not certification or proof that a workload meets every requirement. List a cloud credential only if you earned it, and keep its current status accurate. A mixed-cloud or on-premises role may need a different set of examples from the same career.

Read the decision behind the technology

The supplier API limit changes the integration design: queued updates replace repeated full refreshes, with reconciliation to identify missed changes. That is more informative than listing cloud services alone. In your version, name the constraint, the decision you helped make and how you checked it. The AWS stack here is illustrative, not a recommendation for every workload.
