Separate pipeline from signed revenue
Commercial metrics need precise labels. Qualified pipeline is not booked revenue, and total contract value is not necessarily annual recurring revenue or cash collected. State the currency and period, then use the measure your business actually records. If you quote attainment, show the relevant target basis. An honest description of 14 signed contracts in a defined year is stronger than an unexplained growth percentage. Do not add together overlapping pipeline stages or count the same partner deal twice.
Show the decisions behind the number
A recruiter also needs to understand how you worked. Describe territory research, discovery, qualification, stakeholder mapping and proposal development through concrete examples. A checklist that reduces proposals without a confirmed decision process shows commercial judgement even if it is not a revenue result. For complex sales, explain the teams you coordinated with and the handover you created. Avoid implying that you independently approved pricing, legal terms or delivery commitments when those decisions belonged to other colleagues.
Match the resume to the sales motion
For a partnership role, lead with partner selection, enablement and referred business. For a direct sales role, prioritise opportunities you originated and advanced. For a leadership vacancy, distinguish coaching from formal line management and show any team target separately from your personal target. Use the vacancy's language only where it describes genuine work. A long collection of CRM names adds little if the experience section never explains qualification, forecast discipline or how an opportunity became a customer.
