Start with the appointment, not a generic objective

A professor resume should make your discipline, current rank and academic contribution easy to find. The example focuses on an established environmental studies academic, rather than an entry-level teaching applicant. Use your actual appointment title even when the vacancy uses a different one. Your opening paragraph can connect teaching, research and service, but it should not become a list of every subject you have ever taught. Choose the parts that fit the department you are approaching.

Decide whether the application needs a resume or a full CV

Read the institution’s application instructions before choosing a length. This compact sample is a starting point for a short professional overview. A full academic CV may need separate sections for publications, presentations, grants, supervision and service. Do not squeeze a substantial research record into tiny type to imitate a one-page industry resume. Conversely, do not attach a lengthy publication list when the application explicitly requests a brief resume and a separate research statement.

Make teaching evidence specific

Name the level of study, course or subject, and the responsibility you held. Designing a module, leading a tutorial and coordinating assessment are different contributions. The sample states cohort size and supervision scope so the reader can understand the setting. Replace those illustrative numbers with records you can explain. If you use student feedback, identify the measure and period instead of turning a small survey into an unsupported claim that teaching quality improved across the institution.
