Lead with the department and the customer

Name the setting in your summary: grocery, fashion, electronics, homeware or another area you know. Then explain the kind of help you provided. Checked size availability and arranged a collection is clearer than delivered excellent service. If you recommended products, describe how you identified a need without implying that every conversation became a sale. Show how you handled questions beyond your authority, such as an unusual refund or a product safety concern.

Make stock and till experience specific

A stock bullet can mention deliveries checked, aisles maintained, items counted or discrepancies followed up. Explain what happened after you found a problem. The sample uses a quarterly discrepancy count with both a starting and finishing figure; it does not present that figure as an individual sales result. For till work, describe the process you followed and the level of responsibility you held. Avoid publishing sensitive store loss figures or customer transaction details.

Handle a first retail application honestly

For a first job, use school events, volunteering, a charity shop placement or hospitality experience to show relevant work. You might describe organising a queue, checking an order or keeping a small event stall stocked. Label the setting accurately and keep the scale believable. Put recent education after the summary if you have little work experience. A short availability statement can be useful when the vacancy asks about weekends, evenings or a particular start date.
