A sales executive title can describe different levels of responsibility. Read the vacancy to establish the customer type, sales channel and expected ownership. Your resume should show what you sold, whom you sold to and the part of the sales process you handled.

Define the sales setting

Give the product or service category, customer segment, territory and channel where relevant. Selling subscriptions to business customers is different from retail sales or managing distributors. Keep the context brief enough that the achievements remain easy to find.

Clarify whether you generated leads, qualified enquiries, ran demos, negotiated terms, closed contracts or managed renewals. Do not claim ownership of the whole cycle if your role covered one stage. List CRM tools only when you used them and can explain the work.

Build a summary around relevant evidence

Fictional example: “B2B sales executive selling annual software subscriptions to small business customers. Manages qualified enquiries, product demonstrations and contract handovers with implementation colleagues. Maintains CRM records and monthly forecasts for the assigned territory.”

This identifies the sales motion and responsibilities without calling the candidate a revenue powerhouse. Add a relevant result if it is accurate and helps the reader judge fit. An applicant with limited experience can instead name customer-facing work, a supervised sales placement or a clearly labelled project.

Label the result precisely

Illustrative bullet: “Closed 24 new annual contracts worth USD 360,000 in total annual contract value during 2025, against a USD 330,000 target.” It states the period, currency, value basis and target. Annual contract value is not the same as cash collected or recognised revenue.

Illustrative bullet: “Qualified 45 inbound enquiries during a four-week campaign and handed 18 agreed opportunities to account executives.” This describes qualification work without relabelling opportunities as sales.

Illustrative bullet: “Supported renewal of 18 of 20 contracts due in 2025.” That is a contract-count result. It does not establish revenue retention because account values may differ. All numbers here are fictional examples, not benchmarks or facts to copy.

Describe the work behind the number

Explain a relevant action: researching an account, asking discovery questions, adapting a demonstration, resolving an objection or coordinating a proposal. Where a team closed the sale, state your contribution. A useful bullet can describe an adopted process or completed handover even without a performance figure.

Before: “Excellent at building relationships.” Illustrative revision: “Set up monthly account reviews with delivery colleagues and tracked agreed actions before renewal discussions.” The revised line gives an interviewer a process to discuss. Keep customer names and contract details private when you are not allowed to share them.

Adapt the structure to your experience

For an experienced applicant, lead with recent sales work, then relevant skills and education. Show a change from sales support to account ownership as separate roles when the responsibilities changed. Keep dates and titles consistent with your records.

For a first sales role, use customer service, retail, fundraising, placement or project evidence that demonstrates communication and follow-through. Label a simulated pitch or classroom project clearly. Do not turn an academic exercise into client employment or claim a quota you did not hold.

Finish with a factual check

For each figure, check the period, currency, product, definition and attribution. A pipeline estimate, verbal agreement, signed contract and collected payment are different stages. Use the one your records support.

Remove skills you added only because they appeared in the vacancy. Include language proficiency when relevant and accurate. Provide references through the employer’s requested process rather than publishing other people’s contact details on every application.

Compare account management and renewal evidence in a complete sample.
