Architect Resume Sample: Experience, Skills and Format

Make your title and registration status accurate

Use the title you are entitled to use where you practise, and describe registration or candidacy accurately. The fictional candidate here is an architect; that does not make the designation appropriate for every graduate. Confirm your status with the relevant regulator before using a protected title or describing independent practice. You can still write a strong graduate or assistant resume by naming supervised responsibilities clearly.

Explain the project stage and your contribution

For each selected project, give enough context to understand the work: building type, approximate scope, design stage and your responsibilities. Prepared drawing sheets under supervision is useful evidence for an assistant. Coordinated consultant comments for a tender issue shows a different level of responsibility. Avoid describing a whole building budget as money you personally controlled. If a project is not yet constructed, say so. A concept proposal, competition entry and completed building should not read as equivalent outcomes.

Choose portfolio pieces that support the application

Include a compact portfolio link when the application permits it, and check that the destination opens without requesting access. Use only work you have permission to share. Credit collaborators and label your contribution on each project page. A small set of drawings, details and short explanations can be more useful than many unexplained images. Remove confidential client information and unpublished project details. For student work, name the brief and design question rather than inventing a client or construction result.
