Show the people scope and your authority

An HR manager CV should make the organisation, employee group and team responsibility clear. The fictional example is a UK services business with a small HR team. A manufacturing site, charity or international group may need different evidence. State whether you lead staff, advise managers or coordinate a particular process. Avoid suggesting that you own every people decision because your title includes manager; explain the responsibilities you held and the approvals that sat elsewhere.

Connect people work to practical improvements

Useful examples include clearer onboarding ownership, better workforce records, consistent manager guidance or a more reliable recruitment process. Explain the problem, your action and the result you can support. The sample uses completed onboarding checklists as a process measure. It does not claim that the change automatically improved retention or employee wellbeing. Choose evidence that shows how you made work clearer or more dependable without turning every activity into a sweeping business outcome.

Define HR metrics before using them

Headcount, full-time equivalent, turnover, vacancy rate and time to hire can be calculated in different ways. Use figures only when you understand the population, dates and definition. If you describe a change, make the comparison fair and explain your contribution. A lower number of open roles does not necessarily mean recruitment became more effective. Where data is limited, describe a completed process or a documented stakeholder outcome rather than inventing a percentage.
