PGT English resume format

This PGT English sample runs 7 sections in one column, reverse-chronological, with the experience above the education. In order:

  • Header — name, job title, city, email and phone
  • Summary — 40 words, no heading beyond the label
  • Experience — 2 roles, 8 bullets, newest first
  • Skills — 12 listed under 3 headings
  • Education — 2 qualifications
  • Certifications — 2
  • Languages — English, Telugu and Hindi

Nothing is centred, nothing is in a table, and no section is a graphic. Everything a parser needs to read is text in the order a human reads it.

The summary this PGT English resume opens with

40 words, and it opens on "Post Graduate Teacher in English…" rather than on what the candidate is looking for.

Post Graduate Teacher in English with 6 years across CBSE senior secondary classrooms. Applying for a PGT English post; strongest at taking grade 11 and 12 students from comprehension to analysis, which is where most board marks are actually lost.

It is written to be read in one pass: what this PGT English does, where, and what they are measured on. Nothing in it repeats a bullet further down verbatim.

What the experience section looks like on a PGT English resume

2 roles, 8 bullets, 6 of them carrying a number.

  • PGT English, Grades 11-12 at Narayana Junior College — Jun 2021 to Present, 5 bullets
  • TGT English, Grades 8-10 at Bhashyam High School — Jun 2019 to May 2021, 3 bullets

The line that does the most work here:

Grade 12 board average rose from 78 to 89 across three cohorts after restructuring the writing-skills module around timed practice with individual feedback.

Skills a PGT English resume lists

12 skills, split into 3 groups (Teaching, Classroom and Co-curricular) rather than one long comma-separated line.

What goes wrong on PGT English resumes

Each of these is what the sample above avoids, with the sample's own line as the evidence:

  • Bullets that list duties instead of results. 6 of the 8 here carry a number: "Taught English language and literature to five sections across grades 8 to 10."
  • An objective that runs five lines and says nothing. This summary is 40 words.
  • One undifferentiated list of every tool ever opened. This sample separates Teaching, Classroom and Co-curricular.
  • Undated roles, which read as a gap being hidden. Every role here is dated, Jun 2019 to Present.
  • Certifications mentioned inside a paragraph. This one lists them separately, starting with CTET Paper II qualified (2019).
  • A contact line a recruiter has to hunt for. Here it is the first thing on the page, one line under Kavya Reddy: city, email, phone.

Fresher or experienced: which version of this PGT English resume you need

This one is written at 7.2 years of experience — Mid-Level, 3-8 yrs.

As a fresher in the same role, invert it: B.Ed in English, Osmania University moves to the top, internships and coursework carry the middle of the page, and the summary names the skills instead of the scope.

A teacher application email you can adapt

Keep the email focused: name the teaching role, give a short reason your experience fits, and mention the attached resume. Follow the school’s application instructions if it asks for a portal, subject line or specific documents. The examples below are fictional starting points; replace every bracketed detail before sending.

Private-school application with a resume

Subject: Application for [Subject] Teacher — [Your name]

Dear [Principal’s name / Hiring team],

I am applying for the [Subject] Teacher position at [School]. I hold [your qualification] and have experience [briefly describe the age group, subject or teaching setting you actually know].

In my [current role / teaching placement], I [one concrete example, such as planned a lesson sequence, assessed student work or adapted materials for different learning needs]. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how that experience could support your students.

I have attached my resume and [any other documents the school requested]. Thank you for considering my application. I can be reached at [phone] or by replying to this email.

Kind regards,
[Your name]

If you are applying as a fresher

Use a teaching placement, tutoring, volunteering or a relevant project as evidence. Label it honestly. Do not turn a short placement into years of employment or claim responsibility for a whole class when you assisted another teacher.

Example paragraph: During my teaching placement, I prepared reading activities for a small group and discussed student progress with the supervising teacher. That experience helped me practise clear instructions and adapt the material when learners needed a different explanation.

If you already have teaching experience

Mention the subject and year groups you taught, then choose one useful example. A short account of lesson planning, assessment, classroom routines or collaboration is more informative than saying you are passionate and hardworking.

Example paragraph: In my current science teaching role, I plan practical lessons, use short assessments to identify topics students need to revisit, and coordinate lesson materials with colleagues. I would be glad to discuss how that approach fits the teaching responsibilities described in your vacancy.

Before you attach the resume

Match the name, contact details, qualifications and employment dates in your email and resume. Include only the documents the school requests. Use a readable filename such as Firstname-Lastname-Teacher-Resume.pdf and open the attached file once before sending. Check the recipient and school name carefully when adapting an earlier application.

Use the resume example on this page for structure. Replace the example identity, dates and achievements with your own; do not copy sample claims as personal experience. A cover letter can give more detail if the school requests one, but a long letter pasted into the email is not always necessary.

Common questions

Should I attach a cover letter too?

Follow the vacancy instructions. If a separate letter is requested, attach it in the required format. Otherwise, a concise application email may provide the introduction, with the resume carrying the detail.

What if I do not know the principal’s name?

Use a neutral greeting such as “Dear Hiring Team”. Do not guess a person’s name or title.

Can I send the same email to every school?

Reuse the structure, then check the school, subject, role and relevant example for each application. Never leave another school’s name or an unfinished placeholder in the message.

The same document as above, rendered by every template Vale ships. Pick one and the resume at the top of this page changes to it. A flagged template reads well to a human and parses less cleanly in an older ATS; the unflagged ones are single column, which is the safe default for an online application.
